Hey man, cool story. You cover a big expanse of experience (not to mention epochs) and emotions.

Thanks. Libraries tend to inspire the urge for a big expanse. As you well know :)

Not to be pushy, but you might enjoy an older story of mine which shares an emotional connection with this one, but proceeds in a different sensual direction:

Hey man, not pushy. All good. I think part of Substack is sharing what one writes.

I think you’re right re libraries and the notion of big expanse. I also think that other big public spaces, Opera Houses and art galleries very much so, share something of the same scene: a combination of an audience-based external cultural or intellectual event with a performance or a parade of the self.

I’ve had a go at writing this experience in an instalment of my serialised story on Substack: The Tarnished Gloriole. I guess you might say it’s my turn to be pushy…except I’m not so sure it is. You may enjoy it…you may even enjoy the whole story.

Great story, light then dark (also btw that encyclopedia would be banned from schools in Florida)

Had Castro taken Florida in 1962, Goya would've been mandatory for pre-teens.

Is there a parallel scene somewhere where Castro is cutting a cake shaped like Florida?

"...a cake shaped like Florida..."

You know what they say about the shape of Florida. In the Castro district of San Francisco, your question would acquire a whole new meaning.
