That made my day, Ollie, thank you! I have also discovered you through that post by Nicolas Sutro. You do lovely, poetic work. Every word carries a weight. I'm in.
Thanks, Nicolas. I'm glad nobody got to see the first two or three drafts. The words 'economic' and 'comprehensive' would not apply. The story went from 3K words to about 2K. There were tears involved.
Ah, I've just started reading The Light of Day, by Eric Ambler (Topkapi), and the passkey to a hotel figures prominently at the beginning. Except we're in Athens.
For those like me who know almost nothing about L.A.'s history, going down the vortex of reading about The Ambassador Hotel was also quite wonderful...
Ah, Eric Ambler... Only yesterday I watched The Wreck of Mary Deare, which he scripted (not based on his own story). We were discussing The Mask of Dimitrios (the film) with @Natasha a while ago. I love the man's work, both in print and on celluloid. Even Orson Welles was hardly immune.
Yes, I remember now. Didn't realise that it was the same writer as that of The Mask of Dimitrios when I bought the book at the airport. I'm having a blast with it...
Hi J.K., I found you via Nicolas Sutro.
Such a great story - perfect from start to finish. The Heart suit trumps the other ones here. Thank you for sharing it with us.

There must be so Mr Gilfords making their way through. Patiently.
How many words here, man? So economic, so comprehensive.
And, as per Deidre Lewis, so noir.

LA, finally! Excellent. Didn't you find a passkey from the Ambassador once?
Yes, we found one buried in the ground behind our apartment building on S. Kenmore. We were planting tomatoes.

Hey Gladarvor! How cool to hear your voice!
Hello LC! I've left a few comments here and there on K's stories, you'll have to read them to find out ;-)...
Hope to see you back soon on the G, as it'll also mean something very positive for your whole enterprise!
lovely work. loved the final scene
Thank you for the kind words, WB.
Felt like I was watching a noir movie. K-town is still the same.
I tried to write it in black & white...
